Bad Editors on Wikipedia

Wikipedia, anyone can edit it, but how can we ensure that this power is not abused?

Wikipedia is a great site. It is a source full of knowledge from people all around the world. The immense amounts of collective knowledge is unparalleled, but there are those who take advantage of this. People create or edit articles that serve their own purposes. Those in Congress have changed their entries to look better in the eye of the public and even plastic surgeons have edited pages on certain procedures. If Wikipedia is meant to be edited and created by everyone, how can we all protect ourselves from editors with bad intentions?

We need to find a better way to insure that those who are editing to promote themselves, certain viewpoints, or in any other way bias the information to purposefully promote their own agendas will not dupe us. One way we might attempt to do this would obviously be to make sure to do our research and put information that links to reliable sources and survey all possible viewpoints on a topic. We should make sure we see information from a variety of opinions to better see which sides of the article one would be at and attempt to filter through extremely biased information. We also need to have a better way of banning editors who are abusing their powers faster. Wikipedia needs to step up their game on patrol of bad editors and those who need to be banned should be sooner rather than later so we all do not have to suffer due to one or a few persons own goals and agendas.

Wikipedia is a wonderful source that can go very wrong very quickly when bad editors take over pages and try to change articles to better serve their own intentions. As a collective people we need to do our own research as well as find a better way to ban those who abuse their editing powers.
